How many hats to you wear?

How many hats do you wear?

Are you working in a small-to-mid-sized business?  As an IT Pro or as a Developer in a smaller-sized business, do you find that you’re wearing a lot of hats?

Well then.. I’d love to talk to you!  The folks who develop and deliver our live events (TechNet and MSDN briefings and webcasts) sincerely want to learn more about you and your needs.  We’re all about giving you what you need to succeed, and we sincerely want to shape our content so that it is better suited for you, in all that you do.

If you have some time, even it’s only 5 minutes for a quick phone call (on my dime); I’d love to have a quick conversation with you to find out more about you.  If you wish, your input will be kept completely anonymous.  We’re not interested in collecting detailed demographics, here… just the big-picture “Here’s what my role is, and here are the challenges I face every day” stories.

Send me an e-mail**, or enter feedback to this blog entry (it won’t be published) and include your email address to let me know you’re interested.  I’ll follow up with you via e-mail, and we can discuss the details.

Thanks!  I look forward to talking with you!

Kevin

**NOTE – I’m not collecting e-mail addresses for my employer (Microsoft).  Your e-mail to me will ONLY imply that you’re interested in this discussion and nothing further.

  1. Hey Kevin,

First off, I want you to know how grateful I am to you, the Technet and MSDN crew for putting together these, and other Webcasts and articles. Although my Job title says ‘Network Administrator’ if that was the only hat I had to wear I would have a lot less stress in my life. Because of the many ‘hats’ I have to wear, I rely on these webcasts (and technet/MSDN articles) to help give me both a high level and detail view of how I can make Windows work for me.

Anyway, well, as I said, my job title is ‘Network Administrator’ but it really doesn’t do justice to the many different ‘hats’ that I must wear. My responsibilities cover everything from maintaining the Network Infrastructure, Monitoring, maintaining and repairing the Server Hardware and Software, taking care of daily backups, Administrating Active Directory (and all of it’s parts), 3rd level end user and remote office support for the users at our company and much much more!!!

Just last week, I was able to set in motion the first steps to finally start to move to a managed environment for all of our desktops using the ‘IntelliMirror’ technologies. Keeping in mind that we are a completely un-managed, un-documented environment right now, this task is HUGE! Luckily I was able to find the BDD Kits and have put them to good use. On top of that I’ve been quite busy in the Virtual Labs. Even though they give me just a ‘taste’ of what I can do, it’s enough to set me on some sort of path to developing my own solution to implement. To that end, just from looking at the different webcasts, reading the different articles and ‘playing’ in the virtual lab ‘sandbox’ environment I have been able to move forward and setup my own lab environment that ‘mimics’ our corporate network.

Not sure if this is the type of information that your looking for but had a few moments over lunch and figured while I wait for a spot in the virtual lab to open up I’d give you my 2¢ (Canadian eh!).

    Ken
