This week, as I mentioned in a previous post, I’m at the Microsoft “TechReady” conference in Seattle. We’re having some great technical training and informational sessions, as well as some inspiring keynote addresses.
Yesterday, during the Q&A session with Kevin Turner (COO) and Steve Balmer (CEO), my friend, coworker, and uber-blogger Rory Blyth asked Steve a very direct question about the state of the browser and upcoming versions.
Out of respect for Rory, I won’t tell you specifically what his question was or what Steve’s answer was. I’ll leave it to him (Rory OR Steve) to post it on his own blog if he chooses. (And I’ll let them link to MY blog.. because only in my wildest dreams could I maintain the readership that Rory’s blog enjoys.)
Here’s a picture of Rory,
and a picture of the Q&A panel.

I LOVE the top picture of steveb next to the podium. $5 to the person that comes up with the funniest explanation of what he’s saying. My guess is:
"Wanna bet I can throw this podium over that wall?"

Whatever…I was there and Rory’s question has been asked a million times. I personally thought he hogged the mike to long beating a dead horse. There were tons of better questions that could have been asked.

Hmm… if there were ‘tons of better questions that could have been asked’ – why didn’t you ask them?

To the punk programmer – I couldnt ask my question because Rory thought he was sooo cool flogging a dead horse. He got his answer, Steve told him he understood the issue, and then Rory brought up the same point again. Steve told him that he understood (again) and then Rory went on some aimless discussion. In other words, he kept at least 3 or 4 other people off the mike by being a big windbag. There was only about 15 mins for Q A and he took about 5. Again, people like Rory are just looking for "cool" factor. What would have been really great if Rory had the vision to bring it up 3 or 4 years ago when his thoughts could have impact instead of being another Monday morning CNET, ZDNET commentor.
Does that explain why I couldnt ask my question?
